To your GPL linking problem:
You are certainly not allowed to link a GPL lib to your closed source
application but as far as I know all of gloox's optional dependencies
are either LGPL or simple OS depending libraries (like using Windows'
native encryption functions for XMPP TLS encryption) . I'm not sure
about OpenSSL but if I recall correctly it's used in a lot commercial
software.
But don't forget, I'm not a lawyer. :)
